Introduction to Saxapahaw
Taryn Vandiver
With about 2,000 residents, Saxapahaw’s name refers to the original settlement of the Indigenous Sissapahaw tribe and resides right on the Piedmont’s Haw River. With placement right on Haw River, much of the activities based in town celebrate the surrounding nature, and additional work is currently being done to promote sustainability locally and to preserve the breathtaking environment. Saxapahaw holds various independent businesses for both residents and visitors to enjoy. The town is recently enjoying a rising economic and cultural development through community investments into art, agriculture, food, environment, education, and entertainment.
