The event, which takes place on select nights up to December 23rd, gives families a sentimental trip back in time. The main attraction is a picturesque train trip on the Handy Dandy Railroad, which takes guests along a 1.5-mile path decorated with dancing elves, a live nativity scene, and holiday lights. Families may make enduring memories together while sharing the genuine spirit of Christmas.
The farm's illuminated route, which goes past historic structures like a grist mill, basic shop, and several museums, is open to guests outside the train. Visitors can witness live demonstrations of traditional crafts including candle making and blacksmithing at the Reid Plantation. The Gingerbread House offers freshly baked delicacies for Christmas snacks, and Santa Claus himself is available for visits and professional photos.

A fish fry, carnival rides, and a unique train drop and light show at 9:30 PM on New Year's Eve mark the culmination of the festivities.
Adult tickets cost $25; children, seniors, and members of the armed forces receive discounts. The park closes soon after the last train trip at 9 PM, with gates opening at 4:30 PM. The event will take place at 4259 Handy Road in Denton, which is close to Lexington.

Lexington Depot District
Train Station Redevelopment
The City of Lexington has been working to expand passenger rail service since 2003 in order to provide equitable and affordable transportation for residents. Rail service will connect the community to education, healthcare, and employment centers across North Carolina while supporting regional mobility. In September 2020, the city secured a major milestone when it received a $25 million BUILD grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation. After completing all required federal and state prerequisites with NCDOT, the Federal Railroad Administration approved the grant, allowing construction to begin.
The project includes two new passenger boarding platforms, renovations to the historic freight depot for use as an interim station, track improvements, and the construction of a vehicle tunnel under the railroad at Fifth Avenue to connect with Talbert Boulevard. As part of safety improvements, the at-grade crossing at Seventh Avenue will be closed. The rail project is scheduled for completion by October 2028 and represents a critical step toward connecting
Lexington to North Carolina’s growing commuter rail network.
Surrounding this transportation investment is the vibrant Depot District, which has become a hub for dining, entertainment, and housing. The Breeden Insurance Amphitheater, opened in 2017, hosts community festivals, concerts, and events that celebrate local culture. Businesses such as Bull City Ciderworks and Goose & the Monkey Brewhouse have revitalized historic buildings, while new establishments like Pour Folks Pizza and City Fitness further
diversify the district’s offerings. Luxury apartments overlooking the amphitheater provide modern housing within walking distance of stores and venues in Uptown.
Continued redevelopment includes transforming the former NC Candy Factory building into a mixed-use complex featuring an expanded distillery, food hall, retail spaces, apartments, and a mini-park. This combination of transportation upgrades and thoughtful redevelopment positions the Depot District as a centerpiece of Lexington’s economic growth and community revitalization.
